Arsenal’s slide down the table continued after a 0-0 draw

Arsenal’s slide down the table continued after a 0-0 draw against Southampton at home.

This was the third consecutive league match in which the club has failed to score a goal. Manager Arsene Wenger said that he was disappointed with the poor finishing that led his team down. It was not long ago that Arsenal looked favourites for the league title.

However, failure to win any league match in the last four means that they have fallen five points behind table leaders Leicester City. Following the latest round of league matches, Manchester City and Tottenham have overtaken Arsenal.
The gunners were back in the fourth spot and are now in danger of being overtaken by Manchester United, who are just five points behind. Arsenal’s reliance on only a few players to come up with the goals has been seen as the decisive factor. Going back a few years, Aaron Ramsey was an important player for the club in terms of scoring goals. However, Wenger has diminished this importance by playing the Wales midfielder in a defensive midfield position. As expected, his contribution in terms of goals has gone down substantially. Ramsey has scored just five goals in 24 appearances this season. Not long ago, he was scoring in double figures.

“We produced quite a good performance in the second half and created 10 good chances. The performance we wanted was there but we can’t be happy with the way we finished our chances. That is what is disappointing. Some players missed chances they should take and our finishing is very bad at the moment. We started slowly but in the first half Özil had two good chances. The second half was one-way traffic but we still couldn’t score, we didn’t make enough of our set pieces,” said Wenger, who was looking to overcome the 1-0 loss against Chelsea in the previous league match.
