Arsenal yet to finalise a new contract with Aaron Ramsey

Arsenal are reportedly continuing their contract negotiations with the representative of Aaron Ramsey, Sky Sports News claims. The Wales international has been with the north London giants since 2008 but the club remain unsure whether he would remain at the Emirates beyond the summer.

According to Sky Sports News, the Capital outfit are still locked in talks with Ramsey’s agent regarding a contract extension and they remain optimistic that an extension could be finalised in the near future. Ramsey presently has just 12 months running on his current contract and reports have previously suggested that the Gunners could sanction his sale, should he not come to terms over a new deal before the transfer deadline.

Despite this, there are plenty of positives regarding the Welshman, given manager Unai Emery has recently praised the workrate of the midfield in training Ramsey has been touted by many to become the club’s next captain with Laurent Koscielny on the sidelines and this could be the case with Emery handing him the armband during his second half appearance in the 8-0 friendly win over Boreham Wood on Saturday.

Besides Ramsey’s contract situation, Emery appears to have pretty much sorted the squad for next season after confirming the club have nearly completed their transfer business. Nevertheless, he has not ruled out another ‘big signing’ before the deadline and the club’s supporters will hope that whoever comes in does not end up as a direct replacement for Ramsey.

Arsenal are presently preparing for their pre-season tour of the Far East where they are scheduled to face Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain in the International Champions Cup. Thereafter, they would be heading back to Europe for a couple of friendlies versus Chelsea and Sevilla in preparation for their league opener against Manchester City at home on August 12.
