Jamie O’Hara believes Arsenal are overreacting to the summer transfer business

Former Tottenham Hotspur ace Jamie O’Hara has said that the Arsenal supporters are getting carried away by the signings made by the club this summer. The north London giants have made four signings in Gabriel Martinelli, Daniel Ceballos, William Saliba and Nicolas Pepe this summer and that has got a major section of the club’s faithful excited ahead of the new season.

Speaking to TalkSPORT, O’Hara said that the Gunners may have made meaningful business but they have not overcome the concerns from the previous campaign. He added that Ceballos won’t match up to the abilities of Aaron Ramsey, who has made the switch to Juventus while Pepe remains unproven in the Premier League despite the impressive stats.

He said: “Everyone is getting a little bit carried away, saying it’s their best transfer window… Look, Pepe is a very good player but he’s not proven in the Premier League, and they’ve signed Ceballos from Real Madrid but they’ve lost Ramsey and he was a big player for them. I think Ramsey has gone to a better club in Juventus and he’s gone for ambition, it’s where he wants to be to win trophies. I don’t think that’s going to happen at Arsenal. They’ve needed to strengthen at the back.”

Arsenal were previously deemed to be working on a restricted £45m budget for the summer but that appears to remain the case. Still, the Gunners have managed to pursue players with the help of staggered payments and it will be interesting to see whether they are able to strengthen the backline before the transfer window closes.

So far, Saliba has been the only central defender purchased but he has returned to Saint-Etienne on loan for the 2019/2020 campaign. As such, the Gunners surely need to make another signing at the least, given Laurent Koscielny appears determined to push through an exit this summer.
